Homing's main characters are a young orphaned woman working as a lowly "button girl" in a large department store and her interactions with a young lawyer and his family. The book was written in the early 's and gives a look at life during that time/5(60). Each book deals with a war or pre-war action (except the war of ) in which the US has taken part from the Revolutionary War (Dawn's Early Light) to the Civil War (Yankee Stranger) to the Homing with is the last of the series and the 4th book which deals with WWI and WWII and the years in between/5(25).
